I don't really have had a special relationship with an animal, but I have quite a lot of pets before. When you are alone at home, you can talk to you pet, sometimes, they can seem to be understanding what you say to them. 

You can always just having some animals to talk to and they are always a good listener, they won't talk back to you, even though they also can't make suggestions to you, just having it to listen to you heart may be better if you want to solve your problem yourself.

For a pet, you can take it wherever you want it, as long as it is allowed, but you can't just take one of your friends with you.
